Introducing the Birth Plan Creator
Fern Labour was built to support you during labour. But a lot of the work happens before contractions ever start. Thinking things through in advance can make decisions easier later, especially when you are tired, uncomfortable, or focused inward.
The Birth Plan Creator is a simple tool to help you write down your preferences, export them as a PDF, and share them with the people who will be supporting you during birth.

Why Write a Birth Plan?
A birth plan gives you space to think through choices before they become time-sensitive. It helps you reflect on what matters to you, and it gives your care team and birth partner a clear reference if decisions need to be made quickly.
Both the NHS and NCT recommend writing a birth plan as part of preparing for labour. Their guides cover what a birth plan is, why it can be helpful, and what you might want to include:
The goal is not to predict or control how labour will unfold. Plans change. Birth is unpredictable. A birth plan is simply a way to communicate your preferences clearly, so the people around you understand what you value and what you would like to avoid if possible.
A Simple Approach
We built the Birth Plan Creator using the NHS birth plan template as its foundation. The structure, wording, and topics follow the same format, so it feels familiar and practical.
The form guides you through the main areas people usually want to think about, without turning the process into something technical or overwhelming. You can move through it at your own pace, skip anything that does not apply to you, and return to it later.
There is no account required, and nothing is saved online.
Privacy by Design
Your birth plan is created entirely on your device.
The information you enter is never sent to our servers, stored remotely, or shared with anyone. When you export your plan, the PDF is generated locally in your browser. What you write stays with you.
This keeps the tool simple, private, and under your control.
Sharing Your Plan
Once your plan is complete, you can export a clean PDF that is easy to read in clinical settings.
Many people keep a printed copy in their hospital bag and share a digital version with their midwife, consultant, or birth partner. Having the same document in front of everyone can make conversations clearer and reduce the need to repeat yourself.

When to Write One
Some people like to write a birth plan early and refine it over time. Others prefer to wait until later in pregnancy, once antenatal classes and appointments have given them more context.
There is no right moment. The tool is there whenever you feel ready to use it.
Getting Started
The Birth Plan Creator is available now and free to use.
No sign-up is required to write or download your plan.
